Our little Miss Samantha. Moving to Missouri, she was always the one most excited to experience new things. Nervous, yes. But, mostly she was so very excited to meet new people, learn new things and visit new places. Starting her new school, she was the most optimistic and ready for the new adventures. That hasn't changed! Upon entering her new class, she met a new friend. A friend that I believe has impacted her life more than she'll ever know. A boy. A blind boy. She has talked about him with so much kindness and acceptance since the very first day she met him. The first week, he wrote her a letter...in braille. She was overjoyed! He has since wrote her many notes/letters in braille. This boy does have an extra adult helper each day at school. However, this has not stopped Samantha from asking to help him during the day. She reads him books, gets things for him when he asks and is his sighted-guide when he needs to get around the school. And, this is exactly what has her so excited for tomorrow.
Tomorrow is the 1st Grade field trip. Sure, all kids are excited about field trips. They are going to Deanna Rose Farmstead in Overland Park. But, Samantha didn't talk much about the location or the activities she gets to do. All she talks about is being able to be Brandon's sighted-guide all day tomorrow. She has been to this Farmstead before and happily told me, "Mom, I will know exactly where to take him. We are going to have so much fun!"
She makes my heart smile!
